Calling in the World to Come

Calling in the World to Come is an exhibition of letterpress & risograph posters curated by The Press at Colorado College. The posters and prints featured in this show display a range of responses to the current state of our country, including both personal and political points of view. From the election of Trump for a second term, to support for Trans, immigrant, and other vulnerable communities, these artists from Colorado and around the U.S. use the medium of print to convey their thoughts and feelings about the world we live in and the world we are collectively building. Posters and prints are for sale on a 100% donation basis to organizations of the artists’ choice at the virtual exhibition, Calling in the World to Come.

Black Faces of Rock

Prepare to be mesmerized by Joe Zingler’s “Black Faces of Rock,” a unique exhibition showcasing the power and artistry of black rock and roll musicians. Zingler’s innovative technique blends the precision of pointillism with the richness of pencil and acrylic paint. Each portrait, meticulously crafted dot by dot, captures the spirit and energy of these iconic figures. Witness the intricate details that emerge from this distinctive style, bringing to life the legends and unsung heroes who shaped the sound of rock and roll. Join us in our Blue dining room for an evening celebrating music history and artistic innovation
“Black Faces of Rock” was first exhibited in 2015 as 12 iconographic, pointillistic portraits of Black musicians who inspired generations of rock music. Each painting commemorates a Black artist of significant influence to the music genre. The series, now over 25 portraits, invites deserving recognition of these artists and emphasizes the cultural and historical importance of Black contributors to rock and roll. It also serves to encourage respectful dialogue regarding the true musical history of America.
The series is accompanied by a list of notable omissions to which patrons can add the names of other Black artists who made their mark on the world of rock. The interactive list has grown to over 300 names as guests have weighed in at previous exhibits in Colorado, Nebraska, and California, and studio visits over the years.

Bobby Hughes: In my work I strive to chronicle the gamut of human emotions that connect us. Grief and loss are significant, unavoidable emotional threads that weave together to create the tapestry of human emotions. These intimate pieces serve to honor the emotions I have encountered over some of the more calamitous moments of my life. My goal with my work is to express these emotional states. The Wreckage.
Greg Johnson has produced a wide body of work in commercial and residential interior design, lighting fixture design, furniture, illustration, and graphic design.
Cymon Padilla was born and raised in Colorado Springs and has had a lifelong interest in drawing and painting. These interests crystallized in his first oil painting class at Pikes Peak Community College, where he received his Associate of Arts degree in 2012. He has since shown his art throughout Colorado via numerous solo and group shows. His work exploits traditional oil techniques to explore the worlds of art history and pop culture.

Purple Colorado

Purple Colorado asked creatives for artwork exploring Colorado on a micro level – depicting flora and fauna that are native and unique to the Colorado Rocky Mountains as the primary subject matter. All 2-D & 3-D media were accepted for consideration, including painting, drawing, photography and multimedia. Artists were asked to use the color purple heavily in their palette to add a sense of cohesive unity to the installation.

About the musician: Annie Zagorski is a versatile musician with 27 years and counting of classical training. She earned a Masters Degree in Music Performance from Chicago College of Performing Arts, and her Bachelors Degrees in music and psychology from Wheaton College, both of which she attended on scholarship. She has 20+ years of experience performing for weddings, cocktail hours, orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo recitals, and various other types of events on both viola and harp. She has performed concerts in 10 countries as both an orchestral musician and a soloist. She is Principal Viola of the Denver Philharmonic, and frequently performs on harp for all kinds of events around Colorado, including venues such as The Broadmoor, River Bend, the Denver Performing Arts Center, and One River North. She especially loves themed or other unique events. She is currently located in Monument, Colorado.

Dan Sampson is a Colorado Springs based artist working primarily in acrylic, occasionally venturing into watercolor to bring his vivid imagination to life. His work might characterized by the use of bold primary colors that infuse his creations with an illustrative feel.
Enter City Hall through the Southeast Kiowa entrance. The entrance off Nevada up the main steps is not open at this time. The Art Gallery is located on the second floor in the Northwest corner of the building.
