Key dates:
Nov. 10
Milling and asphalt overlay start in Block 2, Tejon Street between Pikes Peak Avenue and Kiowa Street. This means we’re done with new patios, sidewalks and red amenity zones. Block 2 will remain closed for painting of diagonal parking stalls and a surprise! Block 1, meanwhile, gets more of its handsome black patio railings this week. Woohoo! But, wait, there’s more!
Monday, Nov. 17:
BLOCK 1 closes one more time to vehicles for a week or two so it can GET ITS TREES! They are teenage hackberries coming in at 15-20 feet tall and trunks 8-9 inches in diameter. That’s about the diameter of volley balls, or four times bigger than street trees normally get installed. Big trees need big equipment, hence this last street closure. Pedestrians, please come dine and welcome the trees as they get tucked into their new homes!
Lights in lieu of leaves: Trees this size can only be replanted when dormant, so they’ve shed their leaves already. But our friends at the Downtown Partnership will HOOK THEM UP right away with white lights.
| Remember that additional parking is conveniently located in the City garage on the corner of Colorado and Nevada avenues for only $1/hour. |
Parades are on!
Even with construction, our special events will take place on Tejon as planned.
They are:
Dec. 6: The Festival of Lights Parade
Street closure information

Tejon Street in Downtown Colorado Springs will close one block to all vehicles from Pikes Peak Avenue to East Kiowa Street through December starting on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The closure is required as the Tejon Street Revitalization Project moves into its second and final block of construction with sidewalk, patio and street improvements beginning. Pedestrian routes remain open to provide access to businesses. Street parking will not be available until further notice. Businesses on this block will receive vouchers for two hours free parking at the three City garages nearby.
