Free and open to the public, First Friday Downtown features new art, live music, and special events on the first Friday of every month from 5-9 p.m. at dozens of galleries, retailers and nonprofits throughout Downtown Colorado Springs.

Galleries offer in-person First Friday experiences compliant with current public health guidelines. Scroll down for a comprehensive of participating venues, updated monthly.

  • Come out and take a look at artworks by students, families, and staff from the Academy for Advanced and Creative Learning community.
  • Art is displayed in the window spaces around both the Pikes Peak Ave. and Tejon St. sides of the Gazette building.
  • Stop by the window displays and meet some of the young artists during your First Friday stroll. Feel free to ask questions about their work and encourage them to keep making art!
  • Though there is work displayed from many different artists, our featured artist this summer is Danny Henes, a 6th grade student at AACL.

  • We asked the AI text generator Gemini to suggest an art prompt that proves the need and value of the human artist in our culture.
    • Here’s what it wrote: Create a piece of art that explores the physical manifestation of emotion. Instead of depicting a person experiencing an emotion, focus on conveying the feeling itself through visual elements.

The Vault at the Mining Exchange
Grand Opening Reception
  • Tucked into the historic stairwells of the newly reimagined Mining Exchange Hotel, The Vault is an on-site art gallery that acts as a physical conduit of historic and modern connection, exhibiting the work of local artists curated by Auric Gallery.
  • Featured artists Shannon Dunn and Lori DiPasquale’s collection redefining art and self-expression.
  • Explore Golden Hour, the hotel’s plush indoor-outdoor bar and courtyard, for a variety of delicious beverages available for purchase.

  • Sean O’Meallie – Small Batch Book Making
    • Sean makes colorful wood sculptures with the intention of the sculpture’s intrinsic playfulness and allure.
  • Shannon Mello – Arcus
    • There’s something special with the very edge of a cloud.  It’s blurry, it’s pronounced, it’s a mixture of both.
  • Robert Lococo – The Birdy Bunch
    • An off-the-wall show that continues a story of playful curiosity. (Featuring art that is both on and off the walls).
  • Karen Khoury – In Situ
    • In Situ explores art, in this case paintings and how they exist in our domestic environments.
      The works in this exhibit are intentionally placed in position, “In Situ.”
  • Lindsay Goss – Self Study
    • These studies are a glimpse into a wider scheme of concepts and projects that Lindsay hopes to pursue further in her career as an artist. 
  • Tyler Hays- Ceramics
    • Tyler’s process is bizarre. These vessels start out on a pottery wheel. A controlled fury of sorts.

  • Gallery is open to public to view Olympic, Sports, and Landscape oil paintings by Bernard Sandoval.
  • Bernard Sandoval is a painter, sculptor, and mixed-media artist whose work has appeared in galleries and one-man shows throughout the southwest.
