Block 1 construction is complete.
The biggest individual structures are the stormwater inlet, left, and filter, whose job it is to remove debris from the rainwater before it heads out to Fountain Creek. Stormwater structures and processes protect water quality for us and our downstream neighbors.
Working a puzzle with a lot of moving parts
We’re unofficially about 3/4 of the way on Block 2. On Tejon between Pikes Peak Avenue and Kiowa Street, we’re at the Rubik’s Cube stage, clicking and rotating back and forth on tasks based on myriad variables: access to supplies, when nightclub crowds are expected, special events such as parades, and temperature. Here’s where we are:
Done almost everywhere on Block 2:
• New patio spaces, ready for railings soon
• New sidewalks, 10 feet wide
• Red stamped concrete amenity zones popping up all over
• Benches and light poles and fresh mulch
The southeast corner still needs its tree cells and sidewalks, and we’ve got to button up the stormwater intakes and filters. But we’re getting there.
Watch for closures of Pikes Peak Avenue
The project team has thought of the Tejon Street Revitalization as three distinct phases: Block 1, Block 2, and Busy Corner. But the truth is, we’ve snuck up on Busy Corner work, and we’re getting a lot done already.
What that means to you is that Pikes Peak Avenue either eastbound or westbound will be closed from time to time. It’s best to watch for messages on the electronic signage each day and be patient. This is a good reason to park at the City Parking Garages for $1/hour and get your 10,000 steps in every day.
Remember that additional parking is conveniently located in the City garage on the corner of Colorado and Nevada avenues for only $1/hour. |
Parades are on!
Even with construction, our special events will take place on Tejon as planned.
They are:
Nov. 8: “In Their Honor Veterans Day Parade”
Dec. 6: The Festival of Lights Parade
Street closure information
Tejon Street in Downtown Colorado Springs will close one block to all vehicles from Pikes Peak Avenue to East Kiowa Street through December starting on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The closure is required as the Tejon Street Revitalization Project moves into its second and final block of construction with sidewalk, patio and street improvements beginning. Pedestrian routes remain open to provide access to businesses. Street parking will not be available until further notice. Businesses on this block will receive vouchers for two hours free parking at the three City garages nearby.
